Michael Cahill Wins First 4-Year Beverly Mayoral Term, Julie Flowers Re-Elected City Council President

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly Mayor Michael Cahill won re-election on Tuesday and will now serve the first four-year term in city history after last year's charter change.

Cahill survived a challenge from City Councilor At-Large Brendan Sweeney with about 60 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results provided to BevCam about 30 minutes after the close of polls

While most of the City Council and School Committee races were unopposed, there was a race for the City Council At-Large seats with City Council President Julie Flowers retaining her seat and her presidency with 7,910 votes.

Elected alongside Flowers were John Mullady and Keith Sonia to fill the seats of departing State Rep. Hannah Bowen and Sweeney, who gave up his seat to run for mayor.

This year's School Committee race also included District A and B races for the first time with Lorinda Visnick re-elected to the School Committee, now joined by Geraldine Cahill. (EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story indicated that two School Committee members were elected from each district.)
