Beverly Players Headed to Super Bowl, Flag Football National Championship

Three flag football teams from the North Shore - that include five players from Beverly - are headed to the National Championship at the Super Bowl in Arizona next month.

The regional tournament was held last month at Harvard Stadium, where 68 teams from nine states competed to go to the Nationals. North Shore Flag Football - with its offices at the Cummings Center and leagues in many North Shore communities - had 27 teams in the tournament and had three of the four winners. It was the first time in the country that a NFL Flag Football league has had three teams from the same organization qualify for the Nationals, according to North Shore Flag Football.

In all, 27 North Shore players and four coaches are headed to the NFL Flag Football Nationals in Arizona in January to compete for a National Championship.

The total cost of the trip for all of the players and coaches is $9,000 and the league has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money. As of Wednesday, $750 had been raised.

On the 12 and Under Patriots headed to Arizona is Jordan Plosker and Jack Crowley of Beverly. The team is coached by Danny Batitsta and Jonathan Rivera.

On the 14 and Under Girls Patriots is Kelly Alexander, Abigail Otterbein and Logan Plosker of Beverly. The team is coached by Austin Bradshaw and Steve Borselli.

The other team going to the championship is the 14 and Under Patriots, which are also coached by Batitsta and Rivera. That team doesn’t have any Beverly players on it.

“The kids will experience a trip of a lifetime as they head to Arizona on Saturday, Jan. 24, attend the Pro Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 25, play for a National Championship on Monday, attend Super Bowl Media day and meet NFL players on Tuesday before being part of the NFL Experience and play the Championship games on Tuesday night before heading home on Wednesday,” according to North Shore Flag Football.
