Last week, Beverly Police discovered a loaded handgun in a spare tire compartment.

BEVERLY, MA – During a traffic stop last week, Beverly Police recovered a .22 caliber loaded handgun from a spare tire compartment.

Officer Justin Zwicker stopped a black Jeep Patriot on Broadway after noticing the registration plate appeared to be expired, and confirming the expiration, according to a statement from Beverly Police. The owner of the car wasn't present during the stop, and the driver was cited for driving an unregistered car.

During the inventory search, the handgun was found in the spare tire compartment. A warrant has been issued for the registered owner.
