Beverly/Salem Kernwood Bridge Fully Closed For Repairs Tuesday Night
The state Department of Transportation said the bridge will be shut down Tuesday night at 8 to reopen Wednesday morning.
BEVERLY, MA — North Shore residents who use the Kernwood Drawbridge connecting Beverly and Salem will need a workaround on Tuesday night with a planned closure as part of ongoing bridge repairs.
The state Department of Transportation said the full closure to support mechanical repair work will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and conclude at 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
During this time, the draw span will remain in the open position, prohibiting travel across the bridge.

Access to local roads on either side of the drawbridge will be maintained. Cyclists and pedestrians will not be able to cross the drawbridge during this time.
This closure is in addition to the six-week full closure of the bridge that MassDOT officials said last month would be required to reinforce the bridge and keep it in service during the building of a temporary Hall-Whitaker Drawbridge.
Work on both bridges is expected to continue for about eight more years with both permanent bridges set to be open for travel by 2033.
