Beverly-Salem Kernwood Bridge To Reopen To Traffic On Thursday Ahead Of Schedule

Some nighttime or marine closures may still occur in the coming weeks as MassDOT completes additional repair work.

BEVERLY, MA — Drivers who use the Kernwood Avenue Bridge to travel between Beverly and Salem got a nice holiday surprise on Thursday with the unexpected reopening of the drawbridge to traffic ahead of what was scheduled to be a six-week summer shutdown.

The Department of Transportation said the bridge was to open at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

"Crews completed the repairs that necessitated the temporary closure of the roadway sooner than expected," Mass DOT officials said.
