Beverly/Salem Kernwood Bridge Repairs To Cause Night Restrictions

The navigation channel beneath the bridge will be closed at night for two months starting on Sept. 15.

BEVERLY, MA — Efforts to shore up the Kernwood Bridge amid the ongoing plan to replace the two Beverly drawbridges will necessitate the full closing of the navigable channel under the bridge during nighttime hours for two months starting next week.

The state Department of Transportation said repairs to the movable span of the bridge that connects Beverly and Salem will require the closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays from Sept. 15 through Nov. 15.

Those requesting a bridge opening during that time must provide 24-hours notice with a 100-yard safety zone prohibiting transit through the bridge channels during the full closure.
