Beverly Unemployment Up from Last Year

Beverly unemployment went up almost a full percentage point from last year.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development recently released their June unemployment numbers for counties and towns throughout the state, including Beverly. 

Beverly saw an increase in unemployment from June 2012 to June of this year. 

Unemployment rose in Beverly from 5.8 percent in June of 2012 to 6.7 percent this past June. Unemployment was stagnant from June of 2012 to May of this year. 

As of June, there were 1,469 Beverly residents without jobs, out of the 21,985 total labor force in Beverly. The labor force in Beverly, which is the total number of employable individuals living in a community, went up from 21,663 in June of 2012 to 21,985 in June of this year. 

Statewide, unemployment was up in June as well as year-to-date. June unemployment throughout the state rose by 0.7 of a percent to 7.4 percent this past June. Statewide unemployment over the year jumped up by 0.5 percent to 6.9 percent.
