Beverly's Kernwood Bridge Closed In Both Directions For Hours Friday
The state Department of Transportation said the bridge, which is undergoing work this week, was stuck in the "up" position all day.

BEVERLY, MA — The Kernwood Bridge was closed in both directions for most of the day Friday after the state Department of Transportation said it was stuck in the "up" position.
The bridge was closed at 9:30 when it got stuck open during what state transportation officials called a routine opening.

A MassDOT contracting team termed the problem as an "electrical issue" after a day of troubleshooting and said at 3 p.m. it was believed the source of the problem was identified.
MassDOT said the bridge was expected to reopen between 4:30 and 5 p.m.

As of 11:45 a.m., the bridge was still stuck open with Beverly police calling the problem "an electrical issue" and saying there was no estimated time of repair.
Night work was being done on the bridge starting Thursday to repair a moveable span on the bridge over the Danvers River.
