Book, Possible Movie About Pete and Julie Frates in the Works
The couple behind the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS research are working on a book with the authors of 'Boston Strong.'

Beverly, MA - Beverly resident Pete Frates and his wife Julie, who raised over $200 million for ALS research with the Ice Bucket Challenge, are working on a book about their lives.
Pete and Julie are working on the book with the authors of "Boston Strong," the story of the Boston Marathon bombings, according to a report in the Boston Herald. There is also the possibility that the book could be made into a movie, according to the report.
Peter is the son of John and Nancy Frates, grandson of Jerry and Joan D’Alfonso and Jack and Margaret Frates, brother of Jenn and Dan Mayo and Andrew Frates.

He grew up in Beverly and attended St. John’s Preparatory School ’03 and Boston College ’07. At SJP he was a four-year member of the football, hockey and baseball teams, a school leader and honor roll student.
At Boston College he majored in communications and history, lived on campus and played for the BC Baseball team becoming their Captain in his senior year. During his college years, he played summer ball in Maryland, Connecticut and Hawaii. After college, he went to Hamburg, Germany to play baseball in the German Baseball League while coaching German youth on the sport.

Frates was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a degenerative disease that causes muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately, respiratory failure in 2012 when he was 27.
In 2014, Frates and his friends from Boston College launched the Ice Bucket Challenge, which became a viral sensation and raised over $220 million for ALS research.
