Essex County Sobriety Checkpoint Tonight
Mass. State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint this weekend somewhere in Essex County.

ESSEX COUNTY, MA – Massachusetts State Police announced Tuesday that a sobriety checkpoint will be held somewhere in Essex County tonight.
The checkpoint is expected to start Friday, June 2, and go into Saturday, June 3. The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," said a statement from Mass. State Police.

The statement noted that the selection of vehicles won't be arbitrary, assures safety, and said police will seek to minimize inconvenience to motorists with advance notice.
The location of the checkpoint is not traditionally released beforehand.
