Five Heroin Overdoses in Four Days in Beverly

Between Wednesday and Sunday, police officers saved four OD victims with Narcan. The fifth was dead before police arrived.

Beverly, MA - The state's opioid crisis has hit home hard in Beverly over the past week.

Between Wednesday, March 16 and Sunday, March 20, police officers responded to to five heroin-related overdoses throughout the city. In four of the five overdoses, police oficers used nasal Narcan to successfully save four people.

The fifth overdose victim was dead before police arrived.

Police officers in Beverly began carrying Narcan in late 2015.

During the first three months of 2016, city have responded to 13 heroin-related overdoses, two of which were fatal, according to polic officials.

Of the other 11 overdoses, Narcan has been administered by Beverly officers in 10. Prior to this past week, Beverly Police officials said they were averaging three overdoses per month in 2016.
