Fox Hit By Truck In Beverly Tests Positive For Rabies

It's unclear if this is the same fox involved in two attacks earlier this week.

BEVERLY, MA – Beverly Police responded to two separate reports of fox attacks on Monday. A woman on East Street reported she was bitten by a fox around 4 p.m., and went to the hospital.

Authorities took a woman to Beverly Hospital after she was bitten several times on the leg by a fox around 8 p.m. on Pratt Avenue.

Officer Mike Boccuzzi said the animal control officer set up a perimeter looking for the animal, but didn't find it on Monday. On Tuesday, someone called police to report a fox was hit by a truck on East Street, and had died.

Boccuzzi announced on Wednesday afternoon that the fox tested positive for rabies. A statement said that while it's unclear if there were one or more foxes involved in the above incidents, the fox killed has been the only one seen in the area.

Correction: A previous version of this article said the first bite victim didn't go to the hospital. The victim did go to the hospital, but wasn't taken by ambulance.
