Frates Family Burdened By ALS Home Care Bills

The creator of the Ice Bucket Challenge now needs the community's help.

BEVERLY, MA – When ALS medical bills are upward of $85,000 every month, it's no wonder the family of Pete Frates is struggling to keep him at home.

WBZ-TV spoke with the Frates family and reports that they and family friend Rob Griffin are seeking to raise $1 million for families like the Frates through the Home Health Care Initiative.

WBZ reports that Pete Frates – a former baseball player who is widely credited as the originator of the Ice Bucket Challenge – is currently getting treatment at home to be close to his wife and young daughter.
