Liberty Street off Route 62 Closed Starting Monday Night

Liberty Street in Danvers, off Route 62, will be closed at 7 p.m. on Monday until further notice

Liberty Street in Danvers will be closed starting on Monday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. until further notice at the causeway because of deterioration of the southerly culvert, according to state highway officials.

Liberty Street runs off Elliott Street (Route 62) in Danvers, not far over the Beverly line and near exit 22 of Route 128. The road will be closed to traffic in both directions between Elliott Street and High Street. Pedestrian access will remain open under existing conditions.

Work on the road is part of an $8 million road and culvert reconstruction project designed by the town of Danvers with oversight of the construction by MassDOT.

Drivers will be detoured as follows:

Northbound Travel (From High Street toward Elliott Street)

  • Traffic will be detoured at the intersection of Liberty Street and High Street (Route 35). Traffic will be directed left onto Route 35 westbound, to the on ramp for northbound Route 128 and will travel one exit to Exit 22 and then turn right at the bottom of the ramp.

Southbound Travel (From Elliott Street toward High Street)

  • Traffic will be detoured at Elliot Street (Route 62) directed westbound on Route 62 to the on ramp for southbound Route 128 and will travel one exit to Exit 23, then directed to turn left at the bottom of the ramp.

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes when possible to avoid delays and drivers that must travel through the affected areas should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling through the work zones.
