Longtime Assistant, Police Officer to be New Hockey Coach

The new coach for the Beverly High School boys varsity hockey team was announced on Wednesday.

Justin Shairs will take the helm of the State Championship Beverly High School boy’s varsity hockey team this year, Athletic Director James Coffey announced on Wednesday.

Shairs is a 1999 Beverly High School graduate and works full-time as a police officer for the Beverly Police Department.

At Beverly High School, he was a three sport captain in football, hockey and lacrosse. He went on to St. Anselm College in Manchester,N.H., where he was a four year varsity lacrosse player and a two-time captain. He has a Criminal Justice degree from St. A’s.

He is a member of the Beverly High School Hall of Fame.

Shairs has coached football, ice hockey and lacrosse for more than 10 years and has been an assistant hockey coach at BHS under Coach Bob Gilligan for the past 10 years.

Gilligan coached the Panther boys hockey team for 11 seasons, leading the team to its first ever Division 2 State Championship this year. He retired earlier this summer.

Shairs lives with his wife Meghan in Beverly.
