Obituary: Beverly Planner, Teacher Marguerite R. Coughlin
Marguerite R. Coughlin was a beloved teacher at Centerville Elementary School in Beverly and a former planning board member.

BEVERLY, MA — Former Beverly planning board member Marguerite R. Coughlin died Monday after a brief illness. She was 91. In addition to her public service, Coughlin was a long-time teacher at the Centerville Elementary School in Beverly.

Marguerite R. Coughlin, 91, of Beverly, beloved wife of William J. Coughlin passed away on January 6, 2020 at the Rosewood Rehabilitation Center in Peabody, MA after a brief illness.

Marguerite was born in Melrose, MA to the late Edward and Genevieve Waitt. In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by her two daughters Kathleen Kalentkowski and her husband Edward, and Cheryl Coughlin. She was pre-deceased by her two sons William J. Coughlin III and Matthew J. Coughlin. Additionally, Grammie was blessed with 8 loving grandchildren; Kristen Kalentkowski Gauvin, Megan Marchand and her husband Christopher, Alyssa Coyle and her husband Chris, Matthew Kalentkowski and his wife Bianca, Sara Bucknam, Jena Bucknam, Jimmy Coughlin, Laura Coughlin, and great grandson Liam Gauvin.
“Mrs. Coughlin” was a dedicated teacher in Beverly at Centerville Elementary School for many years and kept in touch with her former students; being invited to many special events in their lives in the years to come.

Marguerite is well remembered as a member of the Planning Board in Beverly and received a plaque from former Mayor William Scanlon attesting to her many years of active service.Bill and Marguerite were the recipients of the Beverly Council of Aging Senior Citizens Award for their many years of service to the community. Moreover, they were active in the Senior Club at the Beverly COA.
Marguerite was well known for helping others and as a voice for people who needed assistance in navigating the steps required in local and state laws. Helping others was a mantra and she was resolved to aiding the less fortunate in life. In any circumstance, she was quick to respond and be a force in the lives of others.
Marguerite was a strong partner to her husband and best friend Bill, who served as a City Councilor in Beverly for fourteen years. Together, they were a team dedicated to each other for 66 loving years; strongly committed to their marriage vows.
Arrangements:Her funeral service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Monday, January 13th at 6:00p.m. preceded by two hours of visitation from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerite’s memory to either SeniorCare Inc.
