Obituary: Edward J. Bushey, Jr., 86, Help Start Homecoming, Former Beverly National Bank Vice President

Bushey was heavily involved in the Beverly community for many years, including with the Elks, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and United Way.

Edward J. Bushey, Jr., 86, beloved husband of Sheila M. (Dillon) Bushey and the late Lynda (Smith) Bushey, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at Beverly Hospital.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Edward J. Sr. and Mary (Buckley) Bushey. He received his education at St. Mary’s Grammar School in Beverly, graduated from Beverly High School and continued his education at Bryant College and the School of Banking at Williams College.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. Bushey had been employed for 42 years by the Beverly National Bank and at the time of his retirement he was the Senior Vice-President.

Active in the community, he was a member of numerous civic organizations including a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Beverly ELKS, past president of the Beverly Kiwanis, past president of the Beverly Chamber of Commerce, past chairman and founding member of the Beverly Homecoming Committee, past chairman of the United Way in Beverly, a member of the Beverly Board of Health and past chairman of the Beverly Airport Commission.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 22 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Martha A. Lewis and Susan E. Bushey, both of Beverly, two sons, Michael J. Bushey and his wife, Kim, and Stephen Bushey and his wife, Jeanne all of Beverly, five grandchildren, Lindsey Smith and her husband Douglas, Kathleen Bushey, Christopher Bushey, Erin Bushey and Hayley Lewis, two sisters, M. Gloria Turcotte and Patricia Chalifour both of Beverly, one brother, Norman Bushey and his wife, Beverly of Beverly, brother-in-law, Lawrence Smith and his wife, Frances of Beverly, a sister-in-law, Gail Smith of Trumbull, Conn. and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their appreciation and thanks to the dialysis team at North Shore Regional Dialysis Center and the nurses and medical staff at Beverly Hospital for the comfort, care and respect that was afforded to Eddie.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly, on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at 9 a.m. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
