Pete Frates received the NCAA 2017 Inspiration Award from NCAA President Mark Emmert Tuesday evening. The former Boston College baseball captain and originator of the Ice Bucket Challenge, Frates was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2012. He didn't let it stop him.

According to the NCAA, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised over $220 million since its inception in 2014. Millions of people, from children to celebrities, have challenged each other online to pour bucks of ice water over their heads while documenting on video, or donate to the ALS Association. Many people did both.
