Software Company to Shutter Beverly Office

The education software unit of a Kansas-based company is located in a North Beverly office building.

A Kansas-based software company is closing its Beverly office, reports a business publication near the company’s headquarters.

Perceptive Software Inc. will be closing its office in North Beverly, according to a report by the Kansas City Business Journal. The company has an office on the second floor at 138 Conant St., a first-class office building build about five years ago within sight of Route 128. The office is modern and “bright and open, with break rooms, lounge areas, an on-site gym and a cafeteria,” according to the company.

It was not immediately clear how many Beverly-based employees were affected.

Perceptive CEO Scott Coons said in an e-mail to staff that its Beverly and San Francisco offices will close and”‘a number of” positions around the world will be cut, reported the Kansas City Business Journal.

Perceptive has 14 offices in North America, including its Lenexa, Kansas headquarters, according to the company’s website.

The company wouldn’t disclose to the Business Journal how many employees were being cut because its parent company, Lexmark International Inc., has a policy to not comment on internal employee moves.

The Beverly office is home to Perceptive’s higher education business unit, according to the company, the result of parent Lexmark’s purchase of Nolij Corp. for $32 million in 2012. The company’s education software is used by over 800 colleges and universities worldwide, according to the company.
