Thousands Worth of Heroin, Cocaine, Cash Found After Arrest

A Peabody man faces a litany of charges after a Tuesday evening arrest in Beverly.

An alleged drug dealer from Peabody was arrested late Tuesday night in downtown Beverly.

Beverly police said that it happened at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Hale and Lovett streets. It started on Elliott Street where Officer Tom Nolan was “conducting traffic operation,” according to police, when he noticed a Black Infiniti with “extremely dark window tint” driving east.

Nolan also saw that the Infiniti had a defective tail light and after ran the license plate to find that it had not been inspected. He followed it and stopped the vehicle at Hale and Lovett streets and as he approached it he recognized one of the people in the vehicle. Officers saw suspicious behavior and illicit drug packaging in the vehicle and arrested Francis Jabiel Abreu, 21, of Peabody, charging him with possession with intent to distribute Class A drugs (heroin), Class B drugs (cocaine), illegal possession of Class C drugs (hashish), a city ordinance knife violation, operating an uninspected motor vehicle, a window tint violation and a defective tail light violation.

A police investigation also found that Abreu allegedly had a large folding knife in his possession, in violation of the city knife ordinance, and also found about $2,500 worth of cocaine and heroin on him as well $1,000 in cash. Inside the car, police said an :amount of hashish” was also found.

Sgt. Michael Cassola and Officer Harold Geary assisted in the arrest.
