Two Pedestrians Struck in Beverly, Driver Goes Into Sinkhole
Two people were hit crossing the street on Wednesday night, someone drove into a sinkhole, and other items from the Beverly Police log.

- Police arrested Peter E. Lennon, 68, of Gloucester on charges of drunken driving, a crosswalk violation, and negligent driving after someone called officers around 7 p.m. Wednesday to report that an SUV had hit two pedestrians on Rantoul Street. Both pedestrians, who were hit while crossing Rantoul Street near Fayette Street, were transported to Beverly Hospital with injuries.
- Someone drove over the curb at 19 Dodge St. then into an unoccupied bench in front of CVS on Thursday around 10 a.m. There were no injuries.
- On Tuesday someone drove into a sinkhole – created in the area of Rantoul and Summer streets from ongoing construction – around 6 p.m. The car had to be towed out of the hole. There were no injuries reported, and the road was temporarily detoured.
- Someone left a purse in a shopping cart last Friday at the Dodge Street Shaw's around 9 p.m., and someone else found and returned it.
- People celebrating an engagement (she said yes!) on Rantoul Street on Saturday around midnight were asked to keep it down for the night.
- Police and fire responded to a fire on Echo Avenue on Saturday around 9 a.m. The grease fire was contained in the oven while it was self cleaning.
- Fresia Soto, 70, of Beverly, was arrested on charges of drunken driving and violating the city ordinance on open containers after someone called police last Thursday around 10 p.m. to check on a car with its hazards on.
