Veterans Day 2014: What's Open and Closed in Beverly
A look at what offices and businesses are open and closed on Veterans Day in Beverly on Tuesday.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary marking the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. The day honors military veterans with parades and speeches across the nation.
Here’s a look at some of what is open and what is closed on Tuesday. As always, it is best to call ahead.
Beverly City Hall: Closed

Beverly Public Library (main branch and Farms branch): Closed.
U.S. Post Offices and mail delivery: Post offices in downtown Beverly, Beverly Farms and Prides Crossing are all closed. There is no mail delivery.

Trash pickup: No trash pickup, pickup is delayed by one day all week.
Banks: Most banks are closed - including Bank of America, People’s United Bank and Salem Five.
MBTA: Commuter rail and buses will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
Schools: All schools closed.
Supermarkets, convenience store, pharmacies, restaurants and other retail businesses: Many local businesses are open regular hours, but it is always good to call ahead.
Liquor Stores: Allowed to be open, by law. Call ahead.
