Water Supply Line Breaks, Beverly Users Should Not Expect Major Issues

A major water supply line as part of the Beverly-Salem Water Supply Board system broke on Tuesday afternoon in Danvers.

A large water supply line that’s part of the Beverly-Salem Water Supply Board system that feeds water from Beverly to Salem broke on Tuesday afternoon, but water customers should not see any major interruptions.

The 30-inch line broke just before 3 p.m. along Water Street in Danvers. It was a 30-inch supply line that connects the Folly Pond storage tank to Salem. It is one of three lines that that Beverly-Salem Water Supply Board uses to feed Salem, according to Mario Tricomi, the water board’s chief water plant operator.

In Beverly, officials were working with Salem on logistics to make sure everyone had water, according to Michael Collins, the Commissioner of Public Services and Engineering.

Liberty Robert E. Lee, director of operations for the Danvers Department of Public Works, told Danvers Patch that Liberty Street was closed to drivers between Water and Elliott streets in Danvers. The road, which had a portion that caved in and collapsed on the bridge over the Danvers River near Popes Landing, would remain closed until the repairs are complete.

Tricomi said it was not immediately clear what caused the line to break. After it broke, “there was a very quick shutdown,” he said. Workers were going to spend Tuesday night making repairs, he said.
