WGBH Irish Holiday Show Comes to Beverly

BEVERLY, MA – For the first time, WGBH's A Saint Patrick's Day Celtic Sojourn will tour to Beverly. The show will be at The Cabot on Thursday, March 16, at 8 p.m.

The sojourn features the Karan Casey Band, world-renowned fiddler Liz Carroll, and harp and fiddle duo Jenna Moynihan and Mairi Chaimbeul. The band will be joined by Irish step dancers and siblings Ruby May and Samuel Miller.

"I am always very excited to present wonderful Irish musical connections in such terrific spaces, especially this time of year," says producer and host Brian O’Donovan. "It’s an excellent opportunity to share the beauty of our musical traditions with our community while we celebrate this joyous holiday of St. Patrick’s Day!"

The Karan Casey Band features lead vocalist Karan Casey, founding member of Irish supergroup Solas. Casey has been called "one of the most provocative and innovative voices" in Irish music.

The Miller siblings are from Smithfield, Rhode Island, and have been dancing and competing for more than a dozen years with the Goulding School of Irish Dance in Medford, MA and Cranston, RI. They have represented their school in national and international contests, most recently in Glasgow at the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships where Samuel captured 5th place earning his fourth world medal. They joined A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn last season sharing with audiences the toe-tapping rhythms of traditional dance.

"St. Patrick’s Day is a time to explore a culture that traces its origins back thousands of years. With A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn, we strive to bring audiences a show that is both modern and true to its ancestral roots," O’Donovan said. "We sing, we dance, we celebrate.
