What North Shore College is Haunted by a Friendly Ghost?

BEVERLY, MA — New England will forever be one of the creepiest parts of the country, and there is no shortage of "haunted" places in Massachusetts.

The New England Center for the Advancement of Paranormal Science (NECAPS), a group dedicated to testing of paranormal claims throughout the state through investigation and research, has compiled a database of alleged reports paranormal activity throughout the state, including three witness reports from Endicott College. Research Scientist Mike Baker told Patch that he uses the data to see if he can detect correlations and patterns for further understanding.

Baker told Patch that he has scoured all forms of books, TV, and media and includes it in his databases. The reports of paranormal activity come from various sources such as legends, personal accounts, reports on the internet and more.

NECAPS' database shows two alleged reports of paranormal activity in Beverly (though one appears to be a Salem haunt). It is very important to keep in that these are claims and are not validated by hard data. NECAPS also offers tips on how to try and avoid misinterpreting what you see.

• Endicott has several dorms with paranormal activity, according to Baker's database. Reynolds Hall reportedly has a little girl who shows herself in mirrors: Things are found moved and shades sometimes fly up for no reason. People have said there have been knocks on the door or voices in the hall with no human source. Winthrop Hall, formerly a mansion, is rumored to be haunted by a young woman wearing a white gown who may be trapped by her suicide, according to NECAPS. Witnesses have reported seeing the woman inside the dorm or outside on the campus. "Tupper Hall might be haunted by a maid who committed suicide there," according to the NECAPS report. "She mainly has the habit of opening doors ands following students, usually in a helpful way." That's not so bad, right?
• The Joshua Ward House is mentioned in the report, but Salem has long boasted the home on the land of the former witch-persecuting Sheriff George Corwin. NECAPS references melted candles, disturbed garbage cans, and an elderly ghost sighting. The Beverly location is said to be on Essex Street, between Bertram and Sherman streets. Who can say for sure?
