Both suspects — 24-year-old Daneuri Diaz Romero and 25-year-old Yonaykin Guerrero Peguero — were taken into custody Wednesday as Billerica police were proactively monitoring FedEx deliveries of Apple iPhones due to a recent string of such thefts across the region.

Police said they spotted Romero take a recently-delivered iPhone box from a home on Nealley Street before he ran to a nearby vehicle driven by Peguero to discard the package. The vehicle then fled the area and turned onto Boston Road southbound, according to authorities.
