1 Firefighter, 1 Resident Injured In 3-Alarm Fire In Dorchester

Eight residents were displaced from the fire.

BOSTON — A resident and a firefighter were injured in a three-alarm fire that broke out at an apartment above Restaurant Laura in Dorchester, early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

When firefighters got to the building at 688 Columbia road around 7:45 a.m., they were met with heavy flames coming from the top floor.

Firefighters evacuated everyone from the building and were able to contain the heavy fire to a third floor apartment. It's not clear how badly the firefighter and resident were injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but eight residents are without a home and fire officials estimate the damages to be around $750,000.

The Cape Verdean Restaurant Laura, and two other businesses are on the first floor of the building apartments are situated on the second and third floors in the three-story mostly wood-frame building.

Columbia Road is blocked off because of the response, prompting detours for the Rt. 16 bus. Look for outbound connections at Mass Ave at Columbia Road and Columbia Road at Bird Street. Inbound connections can be found at Columbia and Hancock, according to MBTA Alerts.
