4 Injured In South End Crash: Car Flips Onto Commuter Rail Tracks

BOSTON — Four people are in the hospital after a car crash in Boston's South End near Washington and Herald Streets ended with one of the cars flipping over, off the side of a railing, and onto commuter rail tracks Wednesday morning.

The crash caused 25-30 minute delays on six different commuter rail lines.

Officers responded to the scene around 4:40 a.m. to find one of the cars approximately 40 feet below on a commuter rail, the Boston Fire Department posted to Twitter.

Four people inside the car were taken to the hospital, and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Herald Street was closed from Arlington to Albany Streets but has since been reopened.

The scene was cleared shortly after 6 a.m., by forklift and slowly picked up from the tracks.

The accident caused train delays for the Framingham-Worcester line, the Providence-Stoughton line, the Franklin line, the Needham line, the Middleborough-Lakeville line, and the Fairmont line.

No other information has been released.
