50 People Displaced After Roxbury Apartment Building Catches Fire

The American Red Cross is working with the families to help them find a place to stay.

BOSTON — Nearly fifty people are without a place to stay after a massive fire broke out in a five-story building early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews responded to 72 Northampton Street in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood just before 1 a.m., bringing in six aerial ladder trucks and a Tower company to help knock down the flames.

Boston Fire Department quickly called it a 3-alarm fire, noting the heaviest flames coming from the roof of the 32-unit building.

Deputy Chief Michael Hocking said firefighters made a quick and aggressive attack to quickly contain the fire, while also ensuring that everyone who lived in the building got out safely.

Hocking said there were no injuries to report, but there is still heavy water damage inside.
