9 Hospitalized After Dorchester Porch Collapse

One of the nine hospitalized after the Friday night porch collapse suffered serious injuries, police said.

BOSTON, MA — Nine people were hospitalized after a third-story porch collapsed in Dorchester Friday night, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers were sent to a residence on Harwood Street and while en route learned a "third-floor porch had collapsed and multiple individuals were reported injured," police said in a media release.

"Upon arrival, officers were met by a female resident who urgently directed them to the rear of the residence," police said. "There, officers observed that the third-floor porch had indeed collapsed and located several victims suffering from various injuries."

The Boston Fire Department and Boston Emergency Medical Services also responded.

"At this time, a total of nine individuals are known to have sustained injuries as a result of the collapse," police said. "One victim was transported to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The remaining eight victims were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were non-life-threatening."

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit also responded to the porch collapse and is "actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this case," police said.
