After Unreported Accident, Damaged Commuter Train Allowed to Carry Passengers: Report

Hundreds delayed during rush-hour on same train, hours later.

BOSTON, MA — A train on the MBTA's commuter rail system delayed hundreds of passengers hours after getting into an unreported accident, according to a new report.

According to the Boston Globe, the safety lapse could have endangered passengers' lives and is now under investigation.

When the commuter train struck a barrier, workers for Keolis Commuter Services, which runs the commuter rail system, "failed to report the accident, and the train returned to regular service," the Globe reports. It was later stopped for repairs in the middle of a rush-hour run from Worcester to Boston, "delaying hundreds of riders."
