Boston Ranked Among Top Cities for Runners
As the home of the Boston Marathon, we darn well should be top of the list.
BOSTON, MA — It should come as no surprise that Boston has topped the list of best places in the country to go running, according to Runner's World Magazine (we're just surprised it's not even higher).
The magazine ranked the cities based on five criteria: parks, climate, food, safety and the run itself. Basically, they were looking for cities with temperate climates, abundant routes, plenty of trails, a good local running scene and "maybe some good company," the magazine stated.
After considering all those criteria, Runner's World place Boston third in the country, just behind Seattle and San Francisco. SF certainly has weather to it's advantage, but we kind of consider that cheating. We ranked 47th for climate (out of 250 cities), but we can't exactly help that.

What we lack in climate we make up in beautiful green spaces.
What Boston does well, according to Runner's World, is its collection of trails, particularly the Charles River-adjacent Esplanade. Oh, and the fact that you can casually run through Copley Square and past the Citgo sign, pretending to be a marathoner for a day.
