Boston Red Sox 2020 Schedule Released

BOSTON — The Red Sox will open their season July 24 at Fenway Park, the first of what will be 60 regular-season games in an abbreviated Major League Baseball schedule.

The 2020 MLB schedule was unveiled Monday night. It confirmed Boston's first game against the Baltimore Orioles, a contest slated for 7:30 p.m. It would be the first regular-season game in Boston since September due to the pandemic. See the full Red Sox schedule below.

The MLB season will begin July 23, with the New York Yankees playing the World Series champion Washington Nationals. Each team will play 60 games — 40 against teams within their division and 20 against teams in the opposite league but in close geographical proximity. The idea is to limit travel and risk of potential exposure and spread of COVID-19.

MLB teams — including the Red Sox — will begin the season without fans in the stands. The Red Sox have said they were "hopeful" to have some fans at Fenway Park this year.

Multiple players have informed their teams they will not be playing in 2020. Among the highest-profile players to bow out is former Red Sox pitcher David Price, who was traded along with Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

No Red Sox players have said they are opting out out of the season. Manager Ron Roenicke said Saturday pitchers Josh Taylor and Darwinzon Hernandez tested positive for the virus.
