Boston School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations

The first day of school in Boston for all grades in Up Academies (Boston, Dorchester, and Holland) is August 23 and in Dever grades 1-5 is August 29. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Boston School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

August

• 8/23: Up Academies: Boston, Dorchester, and Holland, all grades − First Day of School
• 8/29: Dever grades 1-5 − First Day of School

September

• 9/4: Labor Day (No school)
• 9/5-9/6: All teachers and paras report
• 9/7: Students in grades 1-12 report, including grade 1 in ELCs and EECs
• 9/11: Kindergarten students report, including EECs, ELCs, and special ed
• 9/12: Dever kindergarten students report

October

• 10/9: Columbus Day (No school)

November

• 11/10: Veterans’ Day observed (No school)
• 11/22: Early release for students and staff. Dever - Full day off
• 11/23-11/24: Thanksgiving Recess (No school)

December

• 12/22-1/1: Winter Recess (No school)

January

• 1/2: All teachers and paras report
• 1/3: Students return from recess
• 1/15: M. L. King Jr. Day (No school)

February

• 2/19: Presidents’ Day (No school)
• 2/20-2/23: February Recess (No school)
• 2/26: Students return from recess

March

• 3/30: good Friday (No school)

April

• 4/16: Patriots’ Day (No school)
• 4/17-4/20: Spring Recess (No school)
• 4/23: Students return from recess

May

• 5/28: Memorial Day (No school)

June

• 6/6: Last day for seniors
• 6/19: Early release for students
• 6/20: Last day of school — Early release for students
