Boston Water Main Break: Partial Street Closing Continues

Keep taking care as you drive in the area of Kneeland and Washington Streets.

BOSTON, MA — After a series of unfortunate events that began Wednesday with a ruptured water main, transitioned to a series of smoldering manhole fires and culminated in a gush of toxic smoke, one street near the Theater District and Chinatown remains partially closed to traffic Thursday.

According to the city's transportation department, Kneeland Street is open on the south side and is running two way traffic one lane in each direction.

Washington Street, which was also impacted by the gushing water, has reopened completely.

Traffic was debilitated on the streets and in the surrounding area Wednesday after the flooding, followed by the influx of emergency vehicles and at least one building evacuation due to elevated carbon monoxide readings as smoke seeped into nearby buildings from below-ground.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. You can read the full story from Patch here.
