Bystander Caught in Crossfire Identified as Haitian Immigrant

The 36-year-old was on her way to a community center to learn English when she was shot, according to a report Tuesday.

BOSTON, MA — Boston Police on Tuesday released the identity of the woman killed in a double shooting this weekend in Dorchester, a bystander's death that the city's police commissioner called "a very disturbing scene."

According to the commissioner, the woman was shot in the chest in the 100 block of Washington Street in the middle of the afternoon Saturday. She has now been identified as 36-year-old Benine Timothee.

The second victim, a teenager, was reportedly the imtended target of the shooting. He survived with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Boston's FOX 25 reported Tuesday that Timothee is a Haitian immigrant who, along with her husband and three children, survived the earthquake in their home country, only to be accidentally gunned down in Boston.
