Red Sox lefthander Eduardo Rodriguez is suffering from "minor complications" due to COVID-19 and will be shut down while he recovers.

Boston manager Ron Roenicke made the announced Thursday, one day before the Red Sox start a much-delayed, long-awaited shortened season. Rodriguez, whose infection was made public weeks ago, had initially been slated to start Opening Day at Fenway Park.

Roenicke didn't go into details about what was bothering Rodriguez, other than to say it was lingering effects from the virus and not unique to the 27-year-old.
