Fall River Doctor To Pay $175K For False Claims: AG
The pediatrician submitted claims for services that were actually provided by midlevel practitioners, the attorney general's office said.
BOSTON, MA — A Fall River pediatrician agreed to pay $175,000 for submitting false claims, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office said.

Ali Tural submitted the claims for services he purportedly provided to MassHealth members that were actually provided by midlevel practitioners such as physician assistants and certified nurse practitioners, the attorney general said in a media release.

"Under the terms of the agreement, Dr. Tural and his company will pay $175,000 and agree to a three-year independent compliance monitoring program at his expense," the release said.

MassHealth allows for services provided by midlevel practitioners as long as those services are provided under the supervision of a physician, according to the release, but only pays at a rate of 85% of the fee paid for a physician’s services.

From Jan. 1, 2019 through the beginning of this year, Tural submitted claims to MassHealth that indicated that he was the provider, even when he had not provided the service, the release said.
