Fidelity's Edward Johnson III, MA's Richest Man, Dies At 91
The former longtime former CEO of Fidelity investments grew the Boston-based money manager into one of the country's largest.
BOSTON — Edward Johnson III, who rose from an analyst at his father's Fidelity to the chief executive who would see the Boston-based company grow into one of the country's largest mutual fund managers, died Wednesday. He was 91.
Johnson's death was announced in a Facebook post, according to The Boston Globe.
Johnson was the richest man in Massachusetts at the time of his death, with Forbes estimating his $11.5 billion net worth second to only daughter and current Fidelity CEO, Abigail Johnson.

Johnson, a Milton native, graduated from Harvard in 1954. He joined his father's Fidelty three years later after some time in the army.
Johnson spent 37 years as CEO before handing the company off to his daughter in 2014. He remained on as chairman until 2016.
