BOSTON — A heavy 2-alarm fire tore through a multi-family home in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood Sunday morning.

According to newly appointed Boston Fire Commissioner Paul Burke, the fire broke out at 22 Norton Street just after 7 a.m. Two residents were taken to the hospital, and seven people are now displaced.

The fire quickly spread to both floors of the building, creating thick black smoke and heavy flames that caused Boston Fire to order a second alarm almost immediately.

Deputy Chief Scott Malone said there were no firefighter injuries reported, but estimated that the home has over $500,000 in damages.
