The union representing Hingham firefighters said a "thin blue line" American flag it placed on a fire apparatus as a tribute to slain Weymouth Sgt. Michael Chesna on the second anniversary of his death this week will be removed after it was determined to be a violation of town policy.
The Hingham Firefighters Local 2398 said a complaint about the flag was filed against the department.

"The flags were recently put on the apparatus leading up to the anniversary of the senseless murder of officer Michael Chesna in our neighboring community of Weymouth," the union said in a statement. "We continued to fly the flags after the anniversary in support of the law enforcement officers in our own community, as well as all law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day.

Barnstable Town Councilor Britt Beedenbender has resigned, citing the rigor of the job, a lack of support from town leadership and insults from constituents. Beedenbender, who represented Precinct 4 in Centerville, had served on the council since 2017 and had about 15 months left on her term.
The Cape Cod Time reported Beedenbender submitted her resignation letter to Town Council President Paul Hebert on Sunday. The resignation was effective immediately. According to the Times, the last straw for Beedenbender appeared to stem from a public records request made to the town by an opponent of a proposed short-term rental zoning bylaw. The request uncovered text messages between Beedenbender and Councilor Jennifer Cullum that depicted criticism of community activists and often used off-color language.

All five members on the board have served for five years. The members, Margaret Connolly, Tracy Driscoll, Sarah Santos, Mary Ann Sliwa and Monika Wilkinson signed the letter that said town leadership was uncooperative during their tenure.
