First Lady Jill Biden Comes To Boston As Part Of Three-Day Area Visit

BOSTON, MA - First lady Jill Biden will begin her three-day visit to the Boston area Thursday with stops in Boston, Andover and Nantucket.

After her 12:15 p.m. arrival at Logan Airport, she will be visiting Home Base in Charlestown as part of the White House's Joining Forces initiative. Biden will be meeting with veterans, military families, service members and clinicians. She will be joined there by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, according to a statement from Pressley's office.

Home Base, a Boston Red Sox and Massachusetts General Hospital program, supports veterans of all eras and military families and caregivers who are coping with the invisible wounds of war.

The first lady will head to Andover for a Democratic National Committee fundraising event.

On Friday, Biden will be one of several political speakers at the American Federation of Teachers biennial convention at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, which begins Thursday and ends on Saturday. Biden, who has a doctoral degree in education, has been a teacher for 30 years. Since 2009, she has been instructing college students in English and writing at Northern Virginia Community College.

Other speakers on Friday include current Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and former Mayor Marty Walsh, who now serves as the U.S. labor secretary. Both of Massachusetts' U.S. senators, Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, also will speak, as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

This is the 1.7 million-member teachers union's first in-person meeting in four years, the organization said in a statement on its website. More than 3,000 union delegates are expected to attend the convention.

After her convention appearance, Biden will join Walsh at an event at Bunker Hill Community College. She also will tour Eversource Station 99 that services the Seaport District with the labor secretary. BHCC students are interning at the facility through a partnership with Eversource.

Biden will end her trip in Nantucket on Saturday, where she will attend a DNC fundraiser.
