GE Makes its Boston Headquarters Move Official Monday

General Electric: now, officially, based in Boston.

BOSTON, MA — State and city officials formally welcomed General Electric to its global headquarters in Boston Monday.

It's the final formality in GE's previously announced decision to move its main base of operations from Fairfield, Conn., to the Hub. The company will inhabit nearby office buildings on a temporary basis, as it erects its official headquarters in Fort Point.

The city and state came up with millions in incentives to help entice GE to town, including up to $25 million in property tax relief from the city and a state package of up to $120 million in additional benefits. There's also another $5 million in combined support in the offing for an attached innovation center meant to connect GE to community startups and entrepreneurs, among other promises, such as improved public transportation.
