Here's When Boston Public Schools Start the 2016-17 School Year

Boston is sending off summer with a final blast of heat, a sign that students' first day back at Boston Public Schools is almost here.

Patch has collected what we hope is a handy guide to the different grades' first days, plus a few other need-to-know dates from the upcoming school year at BPS.

September 8: First Day of School, Grades 1-12

September 12: First Day of School, Kindergarten

November 18: Period One Report Cards, Grades 6-12*

Week of December 12: Grades 1-5 Fall Report Cards**

February 6: Period Two Report Cards, Grades 6-12

Week of March 27: Grades K-5 Winter Report Cards

May 1: Period Three Report Cards, Grades 6-12

June 7: Last day for seniors

Week of June 19: Grades K-5 Spring Report Cards

June 20 (or day 179): Early release for students

June 21 (or day 180): Last day of school, early release for students

Last Day of School: Period Four Report Cards, Grades 6-12***

*Note:

• Greater Egleston High School grades on three marking terms
• Boston Arts Academy, Boston Latin School, and New Mission High School term start and end dates differ slightly from the district schedule
• Boston Day & Evening Academy, Dorchester Academy, Margarita Muñiz High School, and UP Academy do not use the BPS grading system

**Note:

• Kindergarten students do not receive a Fall report card.
• Boston Teachers Union, King, and Young Achievers Math & Science schools grade on three marking
• terms for grades 1-8
• Mason Elementary and Mission Hill K-8 do not use the BPS grading system to record term grades
• Lyndon K-8 does not use the BPS grading system to record term grades for grade 5
• Dever Elementary has a different school calendar but follows the BPS grading calendar

***Note: The last marking period will be adjusted in Spring 2017 after the last day of school is established.
