Hynes Convention Center Vaccine Site To Close

BOSTON — The state's largest vaccine site is among four major ones slated to close by June as the state approaches its goal of vaccinating more than 4 million people.

The Hynes Convention Center will close along with mass vaccination sites at Gillette Stadium, the Natick Mall and the Danvers DoubleTree Hotel.

Gov. Charlie Baker said Monday morning Massachusetts is outpacing the rest of the country by "leaps and bounds" in COVID-19 vaccinations and will hit its goal of vaccinating 4.1 million people within weeks.

The state will adjust its strategy to a more targeted, small-scale approach, keyed by 22 regional collaboratives.

The mass vaccination sites have fully vaccinated more than a half-million people since the first one opened Jan. 18 — and they aren't done yet.

"These sites still have hundreds of thousands of appointments over the next three weeks to do more," Baker said.

The Hynes site opened in late March, taking over for Fenway Park as the Red Sox readied to begin their season. It immediately became the state's biggest vaccine site, benefitting from a federal partnership that sent thousand of doses there every day.
