Lawrence Level 3 Sex Offender Arrested In Downtown Boston Rape

Edwin Fantauzzi, 33, is accused of raping a 22-year-old near Harrison Ave in Downtown Boston.

BOSTON — A Lawrence man accused of raping a woman in downtown Boston over the weekend is now in police custody.

Edwin Fantauzzi, 33, of Lawrence is facing charges of rape, assault with intent to rape, and assault and battery.

Fantauzzi was reportedly recognized by someone near the Roxbury Crossing MBTA Station before he was arrested, WCVB reported.

Officers responded to a report of a rape on Saturday around 6:30 a.m., near Harrison Avenue in downtown Boston. According to police, Fantauzzi was identified as the suspect.

The victim of the assault, a 22-year-old woman, told police Fantauzzi claimed to be an Uber driver and asked to use the bathroom inside her apartment building.

Fantauzzi is a Level 3 sex offender who was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 in 2019.
