Tropical Storm Isaias Cuts Power To 220K In MA
Heavy winds caused major storm damage and widespread outages Tuesday evening.

More than 220,000 in Massachusetts remained without power late Tuesday night as Tropical Storm Isaias moved on from southern New England.
Power outages quickly mounted before leveling off at about 225,000. As of 10 p.m. there were 220,900 homes and businesses still in the dark, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
There were a couple tornado warnings throughout the day, one reaching as far east as Middlesex County, but no tornadoes were reported.

Instead there were heavy wind gusts knocking down trees and bringing down power lines. Some trees were reported to have damaged homes.
Many of the outages were in western, central and southeastern Massachusetts. Two dozen communities had at least 90 percent of homes and businesses without power as of 10, most of them smaller towns in western Massachusetts.

Attleboro saw the most outages, more than 8,000 at one point. Other nearby Bristol County communities had two-thirds of power customers in the dark.

West of Worcester, northbound I-91 near Northampton was closed down after trees and limbs fell across the interstate.
The storm ended up moving west of the state, with most of Massachusetts being spared heavy rain.
