Massachusetts' Summer Forecasted To Be A Scorcher: Report

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration published its monthly report on climate trends on Thursday - and MA is gonna get hot.

BOSTON — The near-record heat predicted for this weekend is just a taste of what's to come, according to a monthly report on climate trends released this week by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The summer in Massachusetts is predicted to be a hot one.

Experts credit the upcoming brutal season to the climate pattern La Niña.

La Niña typically brings drier conditions to the southern half of the country and more precipitation to the northern half - but this summer the report says that might not be the case, as the northeast is expected to receive lower-than-normal precipitation. All parts of the country could be facing extra-hot temperatures, including the northeast, the report says.

Drought conditions are expected to worsen, and there's a 59 percent chance that La Niña will hang around until late August, even pushing into the fall.

The report also mentioned the fact that greenhouse gas emissions have warmed the atmosphere by almost 2 degrees Fahrenheit over the last century.

Record-high temperatures were reached in Boston last weekend, and this weekend is expected to be even worse. This Saturday, numbers could soar past 90 - breaking records yet again.

These record highs are only a little early for Massachusetts, as our first 90-degree day last year was hit on May 23, two days shy of what we expect to hit this weekend.
