BOSTON, MA — A new culinary director is set to take the lead for the hospitality group that owns Saltie Girl and Stephanie's on Newbury.
Sidell Hospitality officials have appointed chef and restaurateur Matthew Gaudet as Culinary Director. In his new role, Gaudet will oversee the culinary vision and operations of the group’s restaurants Saltie Girl in both Boston and Los Angeles, and Stephanie’s on Newbury.
A Boston native with more than two decades of experience in fine dining, Gaudet brings a distinctive mix of classical training, creative ingenuity and leadership expertise to this new chapter, officials said.

His culinary journey has taken him from the kitchens of New York’s Eleven Madison Park, Jean-Georges, and Aquavit, to his return home to Boston, where he led spots like Aquitaine and Brasserie Jo.
Gaudet was nationally recognized as a Food & Wine Best New Chef in 2013 and has helmed celebrated concepts including the award-winning West Bridge and Superfine, a casual concept on the North Shore.

"Matthew is a true talent and a visionary when it comes to food," said Kathy Sidell, owner of Sidell Hospitality. "He brings not only a deep respect for the ingredients and the dining experience, but also a unique ability to blend elevated technique with warmth and approachability. We’re thrilled to have him leading the culinary direction of our restaurants as we continue to evolve and grow.”
Sidell Hospitality is currently developing several more concepts in Boston and other cities, further expanding the group’s footprint and culinary vision. This includes a week-long Saltie Girl pop-up in partnership with Edith’s Sandwich Counter in both Brooklyn and the West Village later this month, and a special one-night-only Lobster & Rosé dinner featuring Gaudet at Platform by the James Beard Foundation on July 11.
As Culinary Director, Gaudet will be responsible for guiding menu development, inspiring kitchen teams and ensuring excellence and consistency across all Sidell Hospitality outlets, officials said.
“I’ve long admired the Sidell family and what their team has built,” said Gaudet. “There’s something incredibly special about Saltie Girl’s creativity and energy, and Stephanie’s rich legacy in Boston dining. I’m excited to bring my perspective to these beloved brands and help shape what’s next.”
