Phantom Gourmet On Forced Hiatus After CEO's Facebook Posts

BOSTON — A famed local restaurant show that highlights the best New England has to offer was put on hiatus Sunday after the CEO made several statements critical of the recent protests in Boston following George Floyd's death.

Phantom Gourmet will stop airing, at least temporarily, on WBZ and WSBK after CEO and co-host Dave Andelman posted several times on his personal Facebook page about the protests. His page is now private, but screenshots of his posts were captured on social media.

"We don’t take a knee here. This is America, not Game of Thrones," one post read. "Your desperate need for approval, from those who hate cops and country regardless, is pathetic. Have a great day!"

Other posts appeared to be critical of the Black Lives Matter movement and mocked coronavirus restrictions.

Andelman, who also co-owns the Mendon Twin Drive-In and the soon-to-open Marshfield drive-in, apologized Friday on the Phantom Gourmet Facebook page.

Andelman's apology post had more than 4,300 comments as of Monday morning, with some calling him "true trash," while others supported his comments and were "sorry the mob made you back down."

WBZ President Mark Lund said in a statement WBZ is committed to listening to and supporting the community.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to place Phantom Gourmet on hiatus pending further review," he said.

Phantom Gourmet has aired since 1993.
